The Merci "Gratitude" Train
In October 2026, the Virginia War Museum will open a new exhibition about the 1949 Gratitude or “Merci” Train, a gift sent from France to recognize its long friendship with the United States. As part of the America250 celebration, the museum is highlighting this crucial alliance that has continued through revolutions and world wars. Your contribution will provide immediate support for the exhibition, including its interactive technology and educational programming.
